Hanoi University of Science and Technology Anticipates the Edge Artificial Intelligence Trend

Edge Artificial Intelligence (Edge AI) has become a notable development direction in artificial intelligence. At Hanoi University of Science and Technology, more than 200 learners, along with domestic and international experts, are approaching this trend at the International Summer School on Edge AI 2026, held from August 10-14.

Following the success of previous years, the School of Information and Communication Technology, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, organizes the International Summer School on Edge AI 2026, focusing on one of the new development directions of data science and artificial intelligence. The program is co-sponsored by Samsung Group and NAVER Corporation (South Korea).
Speaking at the opening ceremony this morning (August 10), Assoc. Prof. Ta Hai Tung - Vice President of Hanoi University of Science and Technology stated that the Summer School is one of the University's annual activities aimed at developing the young academic community, alongside the SOICT Conference and the Winter School on Information Security.
  According to Assoc. Prof. Ta Hai Tung, the strong development of AI is creating significant impacts on technological professions, especially hardware-related fields such as automation, electronic-telecommunication engineering, mechanics, mechatronics, robotics, and semiconductors.

While large data models have gradually taken shape, new development directions that are increasingly receiving attention are Edge AI and Physical AI. The shift in AI approach also entails a shift in technology optimization problems.

"It is not just confined to software development issues or achieving the most powerful models possible, but rather achieving the most suitable models possible for each specific problem and, especially, deploying them on edge devices and practical systems following the Physical AI trend," assessed Assoc. Prof. Ta Hai Tung.

Accompanying this year's Summer School are Samsung Group and NAVER Corporation from South Korea. Notably, this is the 6th consecutive year NAVER has accompanied the School of Information and Communication Technology in the journey of training and developing IT talents.

At the event, Mr. Park Dong Jin - CEO of NAVER Vietnam sent his congratulations to the learners and expressed his belief: "The knowledge about Edge AI accumulated during the program will become the foundation for learners to develop into factors leading technological innovation in the future!"
  Sharing about the training content of the International Summer School on Edge AI 2026, Prof. Huynh Thi Thanh Binh - Vice Dean of the School of Information and Communication Technology stated that this year's Summer School is designed with a diverse lecture system, updating current topics in the Edge AI field. The contents focus on model optimization on embedded devices (On-device AI), Edge Computing, Federated Learning, high-performance computer vision, and many new research directions.

The program simultaneously expands from foundational knowledge to practical application problems such as autonomous vehicles, smart factories, medical wearables, precision agriculture, and smart cities. Learners not only access theory but also practice, work in teams, and develop projects within the framework of the Summer School.
  The team of lecturers and experts for the Summer School comes from the School of Information and Communication Technology, the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM), Qualcomm Vietnam, VinRobotics, the University of Oregon (USA), along with research units and technology enterprises. The combination of academia and industry creates conditions for learners to approach Edge AI from both research and practical deployment perspectives.

According to Prof. Huynh Thi Thanh Binh, this year the program received 227 registration applications from 42 institutions, including 10 overseas universities. The Summer School accepted 64 in-person students from 28 domestic institutions and 7 overseas schools; 163 students participated online. All direct attendees are fully sponsored for participation fees, meals, and accommodation. This is an activity contributing to the community.
  Through the International Summer School on Edge AI 2026, Hanoi University of Science and Technology continues to expand the connection space among the university, research institutes, enterprises, and the young technology community. This contributes to spreading knowledge about data science and artificial intelligence while preparing human resources for the rapid changes in the technology sector.
