Hanoi University of Science and Technology Connects with Resources of the Singapore Semiconductor Ecosystem

This morning (July 23), Hanoi University of Science and Technology and the Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association (SSIA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on developing human resources and promoting cooperation between the university and enterprises in the semiconductor field.

The working session was attended by representatives of Hanoi University of Science and Technology leadership, SSIA leadership, and many reputable enterprises in the Singapore semiconductor ecosystem, such as: Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific, Marvell Technology Vietnam, Curve Semiconductors, ELH Tech, Palomar Technologies, and Innowave.

Delivering a welcome speech to the delegation, Assoc. Prof. Ta Hai Tung - Vice President of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, emphasized that 2026 marks the 70th milestone of the university's establishment and development. In the development strategy for the new phase, semiconductor technology is identified as one of the priority areas, aligning with Vietnam's semiconductor industry development orientation.
  Highly appreciating Singapore's position in this field, Assoc. Prof. Ta Hai Tung expressed the desire for the two sides to strengthen cooperation to expand research and training opportunities, and especially to create conditions for HUST students to access the international labor market. The University's Vice President affirmed: "In the international cooperation network, Singapore is always one of the important partners of Hanoi University of Science and Technology."

Thanking the university for its warm reception, Mr. Ang Wee Seng - Executive Director of SSIA, expressed the delegation's impression with the training scale and Vietnam's preparation for the high-tech industry, following the delegation's working sessions in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

According to Mr. Ang Wee Seng, the delegation this time not only consists of semiconductor manufacturing enterprises but also many enterprises providing supporting solutions and technologies, which are the "silent links" creating the strength of the Singapore semiconductor ecosystem.
  The SSIA representative stated that the ecosystem, built and developed over 50 years, is one of the greatest competitive advantages of the Singapore semiconductor industry.

"The human resources we train today must not only serve chip manufacturers but also meet the needs of the entire semiconductor ecosystem," Mr. Ang Wee Seng shared, hoping that the cooperation between the two entities will lead to substantial outcomes in human resource development in the coming time.

At the working session, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Duc Minh - Vice Dean of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, introduced a comprehensive picture of the semiconductor training and research capacity of Hanoi University of Science and Technology. With 44 years of research in the field of microelectronics, the university currently trains about 1,200 undergraduate students, 100 graduate students, and 30 Ph.D. candidates in the semiconductor field.
  Hanoi University of Science and Technology is currently implementing 8 training programs related to microchips and semiconductors. Three affiliated units, including the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the School of Materials Science and Engineering, and the Faculty of Engineering Physics, jointly participate in training the links from design and manufacturing to packaging and testing of semiconductors, creating a complete training and research chain rarely found in Vietnam.

Representing the Singaporean enterprises, partners expressed their desire to accompany Hanoi University of Science and Technology in training human resources. Many enterprises stated they are ready to accept students for internships in Singapore, support training in technology, artificial intelligence in semiconductor manufacturing, and advanced packaging technology, as well as expand research and training cooperation. Among them, the Infineon representative said the enterprise is closely coordinating with the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and expects to promote an industrial doctoral program in the field of IC design.
  Closing the exchange session, Assoc. Prof. Ta Hai Tung suggested that SSIA and the enterprises work with the university to soon build a specific cooperation plan, ranging from sharing recruitment needs and annual internship quotas to supporting the upgrade of laboratory infrastructure and training the teaching staff. The University's Vice President also proposed applying successful cooperation models between SSIA and universities in Singapore in the coming time.

The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between Hanoi University of Science and Technology and the Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association is an important starting step to realize the cooperation programs between the two sides.

According to the content of the Memorandum of Understanding, HUST and SSIA will coordinate to develop semiconductor human resources meeting enterprise requirements, promote internships and training at enterprises, connect employment, build training programs according to the practical needs of the industry, organize training courses and specialized seminars, and strengthen exchanges between the university and enterprises in the Singapore semiconductor ecosystem.
