Hanoi University of Science and Technology Ignites Talent at AIMO 2026

From August 2 to 5, Hanoi Capital became the focal point of the international Mathematics community as it hosted the Asia International Mathematical Olympiad (AIMO) International Final for the first time. As a co-organizer, Hanoi University of Science and Technology affirmed its position in discovering and fostering elite intellectual seeds, who could become future students of Vietnam's leading technical and technological university.

The Presence of Dedicated Scientists - Educational Managers

The event gathered about 1,300 candidates along with 1,000 parents, teachers, and experts representing 22 countries and territories worldwide. At the award ceremony held at the National Convention Center, representing Hanoi University of Science and Technology were Prof. Le Anh Tuan - University President; Assoc. Prof. Vu Duy Hai - Head of the Admissions and Career Counseling Office; and Dr. Ha Manh Tuan - Deputy Head of the Admissions and Career Counseling Office, Deputy Head of the AIMO 2026 Organizing Committee.
  The participation in the organization by the leadership team, who are scientists and admission experts of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, demonstrates the University's special attention to high-quality academic playgrounds. This is an opportunity for the University to approach, encourage, and orient students with excellent logical thinking capacity right from their general education levels; affirming HUST's commitment to building an educational ecosystem focused on basic sciences, taking Mathematics as the foundation for all engineering and technology fields.

The Asia International Mathematical Olympiad (AIMO) is an international mathematical competition held annually by the AIMO Union since 2012. In Vietnam, this playground is co-organized annually by Tien Phong Newspaper and Hanoi University of Science and Technology. The 2026 International Final marked an important milestone as delegations with a large number of candidates such as Brazil, Canada, China, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam gathered in Hanoi.

This year's exam was evaluated by experts as having a high degree of difficulty and differentiation, especially in the final section with strict requirements for connective thinking. Candidates needed to perform calculations and have the ability to read and understand information, identify important data, and model situations to find solutions to practical problems. This exam design is completely similar to the training orientation of Hanoi University of Science and Technology: Focusing on logical thinking, creative ability, and flexible application of knowledge to solve practical problems of the industrial revolution.

In a multicultural academic exchange space, the Vietnamese delegation achieved very proud accomplishments with 205 winning candidates. The final results included 1 Champion award, 4 First Runner-up awards, 3 Second Runner-up awards, 42 Gold medals, 83 Silver medals, 70 Bronze medals, and 2 Consolation prizes.

For Hanoi University of Science and Technology, co-hosting AIMO 2026 goes beyond the framework of a competition. This is an important preparatory step for finding elite students, potential admission sources for spearhead majors such as Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Automatic Control... at HUST.

Speaking at the event, the Organizing Committee representative emphasized that participating in an international competition is an important milestone, helping students prepare their mindset to explore the world in the future. Hanoi University of Science and Technology, with its 70-year tradition and prestige in engineering training, always opens its doors to welcome AIMO medalists, talents who have early affirmed their outstanding thinking and resilient bravery.

The AIMO 2026 competition concluded with good impressions of a safe Vietnam, rich in identity and capable of organizing large-scale educational activities. International friendships were connected, tough math problems were decoded, and above all, the flame of scientific passion was lit in the heart of every candidate.
