The Reunion of Over 2,000 Talented Students at Hanoi University of Science and Technology

This morning (June 21), along with many peers from provinces and cities, Viet Phuong - a Physics-specialized student from Luong Van Tuy High School for the Gifted (Ninh Binh) - went to the Capital with his parents the day before and temporarily stayed at his brother's rented room. For Phuong, HUST is a childhood dream, a place where he believes his passion for natural sciences will find a home. Standing in front of the bright red board with the words "Welcome IDOLs of Talent-based Admission 2026 - Meet to Love More", Phuong took a deep breath, feeling the nervousness mixed with the pride of a candidate participating in the Talent-based Admission Method 1.3 interview.

Phuong's story is one of thousands of emotional stories at the Talent-based Admission Method 1.3 interview taking place today at Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
According to the organization plan, over 1,000 candidates participated in face-to-face interviews at HUST and over 1,000 other candidates connected via computer screens from all over the country. Hanoi University of Science and Technology mobilized 320 dedicated lecturers, divided into 203 interview panels. Of these, 100 panels worked directly in carefully prepared classrooms and 103 panels performed their tasks online via MS Teams software.
  According to Assoc. Prof. Vu Duy Hai - Head of the Admissions and Career Counseling Office, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the greatest value of the Talent-based Admission Method 1.3 is that it gives the University the opportunity to directly interact with outstanding students nationwide. "Behind every application is a journey of effort, a story of maturation, and the very beautiful ambitions of youth. What left a deep impression on us is the confidence, the progressive spirit, the self-study ability, and the desire to contribute that the students showed during the interview process. Those are important factors for them to continue developing and succeeding in the academic environment of Hanoi University of Science and Technology," assessed Assoc. Prof. Vu Duy Hai.

The attraction of HUST spreads strongly to talented students across the country. Today's online interview list marks names from Ho Chi Minh City, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, and Vinh Long... Despite the geographical distance, the desire to study in a professional academic environment has brought them closer to Hanoi University of Science and Technology through the online windows on computer screens. The most elite faces, the "idols" in the eyes of friends and family, are connecting with the name Hanoi University of Science and Technology to affirm themselves.

Individual Stories Carrying the Common Ambitions of Talented Students Nationwide
    Returning to Viet Phuong's story, the young man shared that his family arranged for him to come to the Capital the day before and temporarily stay at his older brother's rented room. Phuong's brother is also currently a student in Hanoi, acting as the closest academic role model for him. Phuong chose Information Technology because he loves the intersection between engineering and economics, wanting to use technology to find solutions to complex social problems.

Besides studying, Phuong has a rather special hobby of reading and analyzing articles about top-tier sports. The student from Ninh Binh won a Consolation prize at the provincial level in Physics. Although he hasn't had time to acquire an international English certificate, he was full of confidence when presenting his serious study plan if admitted. Phuong's sincerity and effort touched the hearts of the teachers on the interview panel.

In another corner of the D9 building, Tran Van Quang, a student from Hoang Hoa Tham High School (Hung Yen), was also experiencing memorable moments. Quang applied for the Mathematics and Informatics (MI1) major, a choice stemming from a deep passion for numbers.
  What impressed the interviewing teachers about Quang was his honesty when self-assessing his weaknesses. Quang shared that he is sometimes subjective when doing multiple-choice tests, often focusing too much on difficult questions to get maximum points while neglecting easy ones, leading to unnecessary regrets. Quang researched HUST very carefully and firmly grasped the information about the training program and tuition fees of his chosen major on the University's website.

Quang's progressive attitude and serious preparation demonstrated the mature mindset of a student participating in Talent-based Admission.
    On the list of talented candidates today is Tran Phuong Ngoc, a pretty girl from Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted (Hai Duong). Ngoc achieved a Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA) score of 65.87, a First prize in provincial-level badminton, and a Consolation prize in provincial-level Chemistry. She also won a Silver Medal in a competition organized by the Vietnam Chemistry Association and, remarkably, a Gold Medal at ACho 2026. Ngoc chose a newly opened major at HUST this year: Cosmetic Chemistry (CH-E20) - an Advanced program taught in English.

Not only good at studying and playing sports, Ngoc is also the Vice President of the badminton club and frequently participates in volunteer activities such as distributing rice and porridge in her hometown. The image of the petite student carrying a source of positive energy and a kind heart left a deep mark in the interview.
    Today's interview event is an opportunity for HUST teachers to give valuable career orientation advice. Trong Tien, a student in Hai Duong, recently won the Third prize in the National Excellent Student Competition in Chemistry. Tien applied for a "turning point" major. He pivoted to a new field instead of pursuing his specialized subject strength. According to his sharing, the reason is partly due to personal passion, and partly based on his family's wishes.

At the interview, the HUST teachers took the time to listen to the confidences of the handsome, composed young man. The teachers analyzed his strengths very carefully. As a Chemistry-specialized student who won a national prize, Tien would become an outstanding figure, "like a fish in water," in an environment that suits his forte. With many choices of majors at HUST according to the teachers' advice today, the probability of being admitted to his dream school will be higher for Trong Tien. This way of choosing helps him maximize his personal capacity.

The sincere advice from the HUST teachers helped the candidate feel less confused and see his future path more clearly.

The Understanding and Love of Teachers and Family
        The image of fathers and mothers sitting and waiting for their children is an important part of today's event. Almost all candidates participating in face-to-face interviews were brought by their parents, taken care of, and given words of encouragement before entering the interview room. Some parents traveled hundreds of kilometers across regions with their children to come to HUST. The eyes watching a child step into the lobby of the D9 building, or a father's encouraging handshake for his son, show an immense longing for their child to be admitted to HUST.

Waiting for his child under the shade of a tree, a parent shared: "My family came to Hanoi from Hai Phong yesterday. Seeing my child confidently walk into the interview room, I am both happy and worried. HUST has been his dream since he was little. No matter how hard it is, my family tries to stand by him, hoping he finds a good environment to train and mature."

Sharing the same feelings, a candidate's mother talked about her child's choice of major: "Hearing my child say he chose the Advanced Program taught in English at HUST, we completely support and agree. The tuition fee might be higher than other majors, but our family trusts the University's training quality. Investing in education at the best place is our top priority for our child."

For parents, HUST is a place to entrust the future, a place where their children will be trained to become useful people for society.
  The blue shirts of the student volunteers contributed to making the atmosphere more youthful. 20 volunteers were stationed at the reception points, enthusiastically giving directions and assisting candidates and their families in moving to the correct interview locations. The timely help from the upperclassmen helped the candidates reduce pressure and feel more confident when entering the challenge. The bright smiles and dynamism of HUST students are the most vivid introduction to the learning environment here.

The teachers on the interview panels also gave the candidates the warmest welcome. There were no trick questions; instead, there were open-ended prompts for the students to fully reveal their abilities. The teachers listened to every sharing about passions, proud achievements, or even small failures on the learning path. This understanding helped the interview become a conversation between the predecessors and the next generation, passing on the fire of scientific passion to the students.
      Ending the interview, the candidates left with excited and enthusiastic moods. Many students stayed with their families to take commemorative photos by Tien Lake or in front of the school gate. Today is truly a meeting of souls passionate about science, a place where youthful aspirations are listened to and cherished.
