HUST-AUF: The first Francophone Digital Education Center Opened in Hanoi

On 13th March 2023, a cooperation agreement was signed by Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang – HUST President and Mr. Slim Khalbous - General Director of Francophone University Agency (AUF) to establish the Francophone Digital Education Center (in French: Campus Numérique Francophone, CNF), placed in HUST’s campus, called “CNF Hanoi”. “CNF Hanoi” is among the 5 CNFs in Asia and it is the 2nd CNF in Vietnam, after the ones in Ho Chi Minh City. CNF Hanoi is installed on the 2nd floor of Ta Quang Buu Library, HUST.

Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang respectfully addressed his warm welcome to Mr. Slim Khalbous – AUF’s General Director during his first visit to Vietnam and at HUST. 

The President proudly introduced HUST to distinguished guests at the ceremony: “…Established in 1956, HUST has always maintained its position as one of the leading engineering universities in Vietnam. With a vision to develop into a pioneering innovative research university in the Vietnamese higher education system, at the same time gaining high regional and worldwide reputation, HUST’s Development Strategy for the period 2021-2025 has set a key mission since 2023 to promote the university’s internationalization, innovation, digital transformation and green transformation, aiming to develop HUST into a "shared digital university" model with a modern, green and international integration learning environment…”

Assoc. Huynh Quyet Thang stated that, throughout its development history, HUST has always attached great importance to maintain close partnership as well as to promote cooperation with French-speaking partners in general, but also with AUF in particular. There are more than 500 students studying in the study programs in cooperation with France at HUST such as the PFIEV or the Vietnam-France IT Program, ... The number of visiting faculty and exchange students from French-speaking countries to HUST over these years has always been in the top among HUST’s country partners.

“With a long history of cooperation and a good cooperation context with French-speaking partners in general and with AUF in particular, HUST and AUF signed a MoU of comprehensive cooperation on January 11, 2023. Then, on March 13, 2023, both sides continued to sign a cooperation agreement to co-establish CNF Hanoi within HUST’s campus”. 

On this occasion, HUST President emphasized that the HUST's point of view is to cooperate for sustainable development, where students will benefit the best conditions and environment.

AUF’s General Director - Mr. Slim Khalbous - expressed his delight at the signing ceremony. “During my short stay in Vietnam, I had three meetings with Assoc. Huynh Quyet Thang. Besides the partnership between the two agencies that both of us are representing, we also have personally developed a friendship. Thanks to this event today, I believe that the cooperation between HUST and AUF and our friendship will grow up more in the near future, once AUF Asia-Pacific’s Office will be moved to HUST’s campus and my colleagues have the opportunity to work in this wonderful university’s environment. Sincere thanks to HUST and AUF staff for contributing to today's results.” – Mr. Slim Khalbous excitedly shared.  

Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang and Mr. Slim Khalbous signed a cooperation agreement to establish the CNF Hanoi on the campus within HUST campus. 

After the signing ceremony, the Inauguration ceremony of CNF Hanoi took place solemnly at Ta Quang Buu Library, HUST. Mr. Slim Khalbous introduced CNF Hanoi as a space for digital learning and practice, designed as an open space for students, lecturers and researchers from diverse universities to come for learning and training in digital education technology knowledge and experience, as well as getting acquainted with the latest educational technology practices worldwide. 

In addition, CNF is also the place to deploy and implement national and international projects of AUF and its partners. AUF has a network of 36 CNFs globally in 8 regions: North Africa, Central Africa, West Africa, South Africa - Indian Ocean, Asia - Pacific, Caribbean, Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East. These CNFs serve the member universities in their respective regions in training new educational technologies, organizing competitions on educational technology, and also activities led by Francophone student clubs; and implementing projects. 

CNF Hanoi is operated under a mechanism of co-supervision and co-operation by HUST and AUF. CNF Hanoi is expected to take advantage of its position to connect and support more effectively to Francophone students in Hanoi and the northern region of Vietnam. 

OBJECTIVES OF THE COOPERATION BETWEEN HUST AND AUF 

  • To promote together the long-term and effective cooperation relationship between AUF and HUST, to enhance the prestige of both sides in Vietnam as well as worldwide; 
  • To exploit the potential of infrastructure, human resources and experience of both sides to promote cooperation in education, training, research and general development; 
  • To promote the vision of both sides towards the stable, long-term and sustainable development of each party.
