On April 2, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) and KU Leuven (Belgium) launched a new “2+2” joint program in Chemical Engineering. Under the program, students will spend their first two years at HUST and the final two years at KU Leuven, earning a KU Leuven bachelor's degree upon graduation.
KU Leuven is a leading public university in Leuven, Belgium, ranked #42 globally in the 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings. As a top European research university and a founding member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU), KU Leuven offers numerous English-language programs. One of Europe's oldest universities, it is set to celebrate its 600th anniversary in 2025. Assoc. Prof. Huynh Dang Chinh, Vice President of HUST, expects stronger future collaborations between the two institutions.
The 2+2 Chemical Engineering joint program with KU Leuven is expected to admit up to 20 HUST, maintain a GPA of 2.75/4 in the first three semesters, and achieve a GPA of 2.75/4 before the fifth semester at KU Leuven. Additionally, students must have an IELTS score of 6.5 (minimum 6.0 in each skill) or a TOEFL score of 85 (minimum 20 in each skill). The delegation from KU Leuven.
Many HUST students showed keen interest in the "2+2" joint degree program, eager for the opportunity to study at one of Belgium's and Europe's leading universities. They actively engaged with the KU Leuven representatives, asking insightful questions and building connections.
The two universities also discussed the results of their collaboration in training and building joint laboratories in areas such as Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Smart Manufacturing, Digital Factories, and Automation. Previously, on April 1, during the Belgian Royal Family’s visit to Hanoi, a training cooperation agreement in Chemical Engineering was signed by Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang, President of HUST, and KU Leuven (Belgium).
On March 25, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long signed Decision No. 663/QD-TTg, approving the development plan for HUST to become a leading higher education institution in Asia. The plan aims to transform HUST into a modern university excelling in engineering and technology, serving as a hub for talent development, research, and innovation. To realize this vision, partnerships with top global universities play a crucial role, not only by providing valuable opportunities for HUST students and faculty, but also by strengthening the university’s global reputation in research and education.
