At Techconnect & Innovation Vietnam 2024, held at the National Convention Center in Hanoi from September 30 to October 1, HUST showcased 11 cutting-edge innovations.

At booths 129-130, HUST’s high-tech products attracted a large number of visitors eager to explore and experience the innovative solutions. Notable innovations included: a composite 3D printer filament extruder; an automatic coffee stem cutter; AI vision and cobot training solutions; nanocellulose materials; a hybrid gripper system simulating passive human finger bending; an integrated multi-functional fermentation and distillation device; AI-powered solutions for early warning and automatic fire prevention; and a flexible manufacturing station using robots, manipulators, and vision systems.
A standout exhibit was the MG400 robotic arm, developed by Cohort 64 students from the School of Mechanical Engineering under the guidance of Dr. Nguyen Chi Hung. The project equips students with essential programming skills and insights into robotics' role in industrial production.

Other featured projects from the KC-4.0 National Science and Technology Program presented by Assoc. Prof. La The Vinh, Vice Dean of School of Chemistry and Life Sciences, included BKV inorganic paint, heat-resistant inorganic pigments, and rubber conveyor belts.
Innovations addressing practical needs
HUST students consistently emphasized that they were inspired by real-world challenges. Quyen Dinh Quyet, a student of Cohort 65, School of Mechanical Engineering (SME) and leader of the “AI-powered Early Fire Detection and Prevention System” project, noted that the idea stemmed from the increasing number of devastating fires in recent years. Using 2D cameras with AI technology, Quyet’s team sought to overcome the limitations of existing fire alarms such as difficulty detecting low-temperature fires, pinpointing their location, and frequent false alarms. After extensive testing, the system is market-ready, and the team aims to partner with leading companies to bring it to households nationwide.
Addressing the growing field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, Dr. Phung Xuan Lan, Dr. Nguyen Kien Trung, and four IMS lab students developed a composite 3D printer filament extruder. Dr. Lan, a veteran 3D bioprinting researcher, guided her students in refining the design. Upgraded from their 2023 Vietnam International Innovation Exhibition model, the machine produces 3D printing filaments from powdered biomaterials at a low cost, supporting research, teaching, and biomedical applications, including 3D-printed tablets, without expensive bioprinting equipment. Themed “Fostering Innovation - Driving Rapid and Sustainable Socio-Economic Development,” Techconnect & Innovation Vietnam 2024 is a national-scale event organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology in collaboration with the Hanoi People’s Committee. The event featured five forums on technology and innovation, covering topics such as technology policy for socio-economic development, construction technology, medical technology, agricultural technology, and high-tech investment promotion.
