This summer, 8 HUST students participated in an international exchange program at University of Wyoming (USA).

HUST prepared these 8 students for their journey into an international university, where they would work alongside leading researchers and embrace the unique experiences of the American West. This journey became a milestone in the academic, professional, and personal growth of these HUST students, honing their ability to integrate into the global community.

To secure opportunities for study exchange abroad, HUST students receive significant support from the university. They access information through internal announcements, receive recommendations from their supervising lecturers, and are guided by specialized departments from the academic application stage through to the paperwork.

In each department, HUST staff and faculty act as informational connections, assisting students with reviewing their applications, letters of recommendation, insurance, flight tickets, and visas, and connecting with the host institutions. "The preparation time was very short, but thanks to the seamless coordination between our teachers and the university's departments, we managed to complete everything in time for our departure," shared student Lê Đức Anh, K66 - Bioengineering 01, from the School of Chemistry and Life sciences.

The group of 8 HUST men was highly proactive and serious about their internship journey in the United States. They were always ready to adjust their personal plans, provide additional research evidence, improve their language skills, and update their knowledge to meet the requirements of the host laboratories.

At the University of Wyoming, the HUST students were assigned to various research groups: Physics, Mechatronics & Manufacturing, Energy Storage & Power Systems, Applied Chemistry & Biology, Organic Technology & Petrochemicals, and Environment & Energy.

In each laboratory, the students participated directly in research projects under the direction of leading professors in their fields. The international lab environment provided them with valuable experiences, especially during lab meetings conducted in specialized terminology, which also helped sharpen their language skills.

"Having to discuss academic issues in English was a bit difficult for me in the first few days. However, thanks to the support of the professor and everyone in the lab, things gradually became easier," shared student Mẫn Anh Minh, K66 - Physics 03, from the School of Engineering Physics.

Far from their families and homeland, 8 HUST students grew closer, forming a strong bond and becoming a source of emotional support for one another. The young men maintained a routine of sharing documents, work schedules, and small tips for studying and daily life. They supported each other in everything from getting accustomed to lab procedures and writing reports to managing their daily lives.

"We faced many difficulties having to immediately adapt to the lab schedule and manage our daily routines in a foreign country. However, practicing self-discipline helped us improve our lives. The daily care and help we gave each other was a precious source of emotional strength. Even in the far-off United States, we had classmates and compatriots to study and share with. We also met and befriended many international students who were very friendly and fond of the people and country of Vietnam," shared student Nguyễn Ngọc Sơn, K66 - Elitech Mechatronics 02, from the School of Mechanical Engineering.

When asked about their most memorable experience during the US internship, the group immediately recalled attending the doctoral dissertation defense of a Vietnamese PhD candidate at the University of Wyoming. Despite being from different fields, the Vietnamese community turned out in full force to support the candidate, creating a sense of connection and solidarity far from home. It was a powerfully inspiring moment for the young Vietnamese men on their own academic paths.

"The confident Q&A session that followed between the PhD candidate, the students, and the professors was open and highly academic. It sparked an image in my mind of a not-so-distant future where I, too, might reach that same milestone," shared student Nguyễn Văn An, K66 - Automation 08, from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

"After the internship, we feel very proud, honored, and more mature. We hope that the spirit and intellect of HUST students, and of Vietnamese people in general, will be spread even more widely," said student Phan Nguyên Phương, K65 - Mechatronics 02, from the School of Mechanical Engineering.

Hanoi University of Science and Technology continuously strives to be the best launchpad to send its students out into the world. The university fosters a rigorous academic environment that encourages students to engage in scientific research from an early stage. Furthermore, HUST's expanding network of cooperation with international universities, laboratories, and enterprises, along with its standardized administrative support process, has become an advantage for students to confidently apply for short-term and long-term exchange programs.

"A strong foundation in mathematics and engineering, logical thinking, and a spirit of self-learning formed HUST students. These advantages helped us integrate easily and feel completely equal when joining international labs," shared student Kiều Thế Anh, K67 - Electrical Engineering 04, from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

The students were incredibly proud to wear the HUST colors at a research institution in the United States. By stepping out of their comfort zones, these eight young men from HUST demonstrated their confidence and capability to their international peers. They not only gained new knowledge, skills and experiences but also expanded their circle of friends and teachers, having several chances in their bright future.

For these HUST students, the University of Wyoming is not just a geographical location but a brilliant milestone on each of their personal journeys of growth. From their first day in a leading world power to the end of their journey, these young HUST talents accumulated invaluable experiences and the confidence to continue advancing on their academic paths.

Upon returning to Vietnam, each student has resumed their own academic schedule and personal direction, but they all remain connected with each other and with their friends in the US. This bond extends the value of a Wyoming summer, ensuring that the opportunity is not just for eight students but is also passed on to many more HUST generations to come.
