HUST celebrated the establishment of the two new schools
On June 7th, HUST held a ceremony to announce the establishment of the School of Materials Science and Engineering and the School of Chemistry and Life Sciences, together with their managing positions. 

Together with the 3 current schools: The School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the School of Information and Communication Technology, HUST currently has 5 newly-established schools during its model transformation.

School of Materials Science and Engineering was established on the basis of merging the following units: School of Materials Science and Engineering; School of Textile - Leather and Fashion; ITIMS, Polymer Center, and Department of Printing Engineering of School of Chemical Engineering.

Prof. Huynh Trung Hai – Head of Research Management Department – was appointed Head of the School of Materials Science and Engineering.

The Vice Heads include Assoc. Prof. Le Thai Hung, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thanh Liem, and Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Duc Hoa.

School of Materials Science and Engineering has undergraduate and graduate majors related to traditional materials and new materials, meeting the human resource needs of many industrial fields, such as engineering, advanced materials, materials and nanostructure fabrication technology from source materials to smelting, forming processing, non-ferrous alloys and surface treatment; electronic materials science, microelectronic engineering and nanotechnology; optical, optoelectronic and photonic materials; textile technology - footwear and fashion; polymeric materials - polymeric-based composites, printing and communication techniques.

The professional qualifications of lecturers of the School of Materials Science and Engineering are impressive: 93.65% of the School's lecturers are PhDs, and nearly 40% of the lecturers have the titles of Professor, Associate Professor.

School of Chemistry and Life Sciences was established on the basis of merging the following units: School of Chemical Engineering, School of Biotechnology and Food Technology, School of Environmental Science and Technology, INAPRO.

Assoc. Prof. Chu Ky Son - Head of the School of Biotechnology and Food Technology was appointed as Head of the School of Chemistry and Life Sciences. 

The Vice Heads include Assoc. Prof. La The Vinh, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Hong Lien, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thi Anh Tuyet.

School of Chemistry and Life Sciences offers courses in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Bioengineering, Food Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Environmental and Resource Management. The School has highly qualified lecturers and staff with over 90% of the lecturers holding a doctorate degree and nearly 40% of the lecturers holding the title of professor or associate professor.

These key and sustainable industries have significant links to each other in terms of basic knowledge. School of Chemistry and Life Sciences has modern synchronous research centers and laboratories combined with advanced teaching methods, thereby expanding job opportunities for students after graduation, and diversifying high-quality human resources for the development of the country. 

With HUST’s strong motivation, the high determination of two new leaders, the solidarity and consensus of staff and students, the 2 newly established schools will soon overcome the immediate difficulties and successfully implement the annual plan. The positive results will greatly contribute to the strategic goals that have been set in the project of re-organizing the university, promoting the successful implementation of HUST’s development strategy until 2025, with a vision to 2030.
