On January 10, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with West Japan Railway Company (JR West) to advance research on high-tech applications, particularly artificial intelligence in smart transportation, and to support the training of highly skilled professionals in this field.
Facing a shortage of skilled labor, for the first time, JR West decided to collaborate with an education institution outside of Japan to establish training programs designed to recruit outstanding students, particularly in IT and AI, to accelerate its digital transformation. The partnership includes knowledge exchange, faculty exchange, joint research, career development, workshops, lectures, and other specialized programs. Assoc. Prof. Huynh Dang Chinh, Vice President of HUST expressed optimism about the collaboration.
The partnership marks a significant step toward advancing research and creating new opportunities for students, including joint projects, technical exchanges, and cultural knowledge-sharing. It is believed to positively impact HUST students, faculty, and broader society, fostering growth for both Vietnam and Japan. Hiroyuki Mazaki, General Manager of Railway DX, Innovation Headquarters, JR West, looks forward to mutual development and societal progress.
With Japan's leadership in digital transformation and AI, HUST aims to strengthen ties with Japanese companies, including JR West, which excels in AI-driven railway management. As part of its development plans in Vietnam, JR West seeks to enhance its role in talent development and share valuable expertise in railway operations.
