On December 27, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) hosted the Inauguration Ceremony of the Viettel-HUST 5G/6G Lab and the 2024 Viettel Excellence Scholarship Award Ceremony. The event marked the strong ties between the School of  Electrical and Electronic Engineering (SEEE), HUST, and the Military Industry and Telecoms Group Viettel.

The 1.7-billion-VND 5G/6G Lab aims to support Viettel-HUST research and development projects in latest networking technologies and 5G/6G, offer advanced training for Viettel staff,  foster consulting, testing and problem-solving, and guide future research initiatives.

Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang, President of HUST, emphasized two key principles in HUST’s educational development: Investing in laboratories to ensure hands-on learning with advanced technologies and ensuring transparency in lab management to align research with the assigned mission. The university president expects SEEE will take the lead in this collaboration.

According to Colonel Cao Anh Son, Deputy General Director of Viettel Group, the telecommunications infrastructure plays a crucial role in Vietnam’s digital transformation, and the new research lab will leverage Viettel’s existing research to develop innovative products. Only six countries have implemented 5G, and Viettel is one of the few companies producing 5G equipment for both domestic and international markets. Colonel Son acknowledged the contributions of outstanding engineers and researchers from HUST in this achievement.

Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Huu Thanh, Dean of SEEE, presented completed and ongoing collaborations between HUST and Viettel Group, including joint training programs, the Viettel Excellence Scholarship, R&D project on the development of AI algorithms for 5G chips, and other completed joint research projects. With the establishment of the new lab, he anticipates further collaboration on 5G/6G technologies, which will benefit both parties and contribute to the sustainable development of society.

Nine outstanding students receiving the 2024 Viettel Excellence Scholarships.
During the ceremony, the 2024 Viettel Excellence Scholarships were awarded to nine outstanding students, with each scholarship valued at 50 million VND. The scholarship program was established as part of Viettel's commitment to developing high-quality talent, particularly in the field of technology.
