New Vice President Joins HUST Board of Presidency

This morning (May 6), Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) officially announced the appointment of Prof. Vu Van Yem as Vice President.

In his remarks, Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang, President of HUST, congratulated Prof. Vu Van Yem and emphasized that the addition of new vice presidents aligns with the university’s roadmap to become one of Asia’s leading higher education institutions.

As the new Vice President, Prof. Van Yem will oversee four key initiatives:
  1. Talent Recruitment and Development: Driving efforts to attract, support, and retain top talent through a flexible, motivating, and recognition-based approach.
  2. University Rankings: Enhancing HUST’s global standing not as an end goal, but as a means to improve governance, education, research, and international visibility.
  3. Internationalization & English Integration: Enhancing English proficiency among staff and faculty and embedding English use across teaching, research, and operations as a foundation for global engagement.
  4. HUST Hung Yen Campus Development: Overseeing planning and coordination with stakeholders to establish a modern satellite campus focused on training, research, innovation, and industry collaboration.

As outlined in the 2025-2035 development strategy, HUST aims to become a modern, high-performing university and a leading center for talent development, research, and innovation in key technology fields by 2030. The university seeks to drive national digitalization and green transformation and rank among Asia’s top 100-150 institutions in engineering and technology. Embracing autonomy and innovation, HUST is streamlining its governance for global integration while prioritizing student success, faculty growth, and institutional excellence.

Embracing these goals, Prof. Van Yem’s appointment will further the capacity of the Board of Presidency, ensuring effective and coordinated execution of the university’s mission. He expressed his confidence that with the collective determination and unity of university leadership, faculty, and researchers, HUST will thrive and further enhance their national and international standing.

Prof. Vu Van Yem, newly appointed Vice President of HUST, accepts his new role.
Prof. Vu Van Yem (b. 1975) earned his PhD in 2005 from TelecomParisTech, France. He became a full professor in 2019 at HUST, specializing in Electronics and Telecommunications. Prof. Yem has been a member of HUST Academic Council for the Department of Electrical-Electronics-Mechanical Engineering in 2012 and the Department of Electrical-Electronics-Automation Engineering since 2020.

Prior to this appointment, Prof. Yem served as Director of the Department of Organization and Personnel and Director of the Department of Administrations.
