To mark the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2025) and Vietnam Science and Technology Day (May 18), the Hanoi Women’s Union and Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) co-hosted the 2025 Hanoi Women in Technology and Innovation program on May 17-18 at the university campus.

The opening ceremony on the evening of May 17 welcomed Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huong, Vice President of the Vietnam Women’s Union; Mr. Nguyen Manh Quyen, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son, Party Secretary of the Hanoi Universities and Colleges Bloc; along with city officials, business representatives, scientists, and a large number of HUST faculty and students.

At the opening ceremony, Ms. Le Kim Anh, Chairwoman of the Hanoi Women’s Union, emphasized the importance of science, technology, and digital transformation in national development.

She highlighted Hanoi’s unique advantage as the capital, home to over 70% of the country’s science and technology organizations, universities, research institutes, 82% of national labs, and more than 65% of leading scientists. With this strong foundation, Hanoi is taking bold steps to implement Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, aiming to become a national and regional hub for innovation, research, development, and technology transfer.

She also highlighted the vital contributions of Hanoi’s women, who make up over half the city’s population, in driving progress across sectors, especially in agriculture, manufacturing, and healthcare.

Agreeing with Ms. Le Kim Anh, Assoc. Prof. Huynh Dang Chinh, Vice President of HUST, affirmed the university’s strong commitment to promoting gender equality in science and education. The university supports innovative initiatives led by female scientists and students and is proud of their outstanding female faculty and ambitious students contributing to fields like AI, IT, biomedical science, and materials.

“With innovative thinking and determination, I believe Hanoi’s women, especially female students, will continue to lead in mastering technology, driving digital transformation, and building a creative, smart, and livable city,” Assoc. Prof. Huynh emphasized.

He also noted that the 2025 Hanoi Women in Technology and Innovation program is a key part of implementing Decision 4028/QD-UBND and Plan 146 KH-BTV of the Hanoi Women’s Union, which focus on empowering women to build a peaceful and innovative city during 2023-2026.

As part of the program, hundreds of science and technology products developed by women were showcased.

The Female Intellectuals Association at HUST featured five booths presenting advanced tech solutions, including AI applications for environment and climate change, the Vbee Vietnamese speech synthesis system, a bee health monitoring system, a person search system using camera networks and query-based search, a remote health monitoring system (SWIT) with self-powered mobile devices, an energy-harvesting circuit for IoT devices, a passive infrared motion sensor using tiny machine learning (iPIR), 360-degree on-demand video streaming for VR glasses, and a dynamic point-cloud video player for VR.

The event featured a roundtable titled “Technology and Innovation: Opportunities and Challenges for Women in the Digital Era”.
The roundtable titled “Technology and Innovation:Opportunities and Challenges for Women in the Digital Era” provided a platform for delegates to share experiences and solutions to boost innovation among Hanoi’s women. This supports the implementation of Politburo Resolution 57-NQ/TW.

The event recognized Hanoi women’s contributions to science and technology and highlighted their leading role in driving innovation and digital transformation, contributing to the sustainable development of the capital and the nation.
