On March 25, Marc E. Knapper, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam, visited Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), where he met with Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang, President of the university and joined a friendly exchange with faculty and students.
As Vietnam’s leading university in science and technology, HUST prioritizes international collaboration, especially with U.S. partners. Over the past year, the university carried out around 10 research projects funded by prestigious U.S. institutions such as the U.S. Army, AFOSR, ONRG, and the U.S. Department of State. Many HUST faculty and students have also received Fulbright scholarships, supporting academic exchange and research in the U.S. The support from the U.S. has enhanced the university’s research ability and strengthened their global reputation. During his conversation with HUST students and faculty, U.S. Ambassador Marc E. Knapper affirmed the university’s long-standing partnership with the United States, praising their strong support for advancing U.S. - Vietnam relations. The visit marked the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries. Built on mutual respect, shared aspirations, and a bold vision, the relationship has now grown into a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, thriving in education, trade, and innovation. The U.S. Ambassador stated: “Over the past 30 years, every area of U.S. - Vietnam cooperation has grown. Much of this progress is driven by American technology and innovation. Our deepening partnership in R&D, science, and innovation is creating new sources of prosperity, strengthening our economies, and opening up new opportunities for our people.”
Ambassador Knapper maintained that students are at the forefront of Vietnam’s innovation-driven economy. The skills they gain at HUST are key to the nation’s future, equipping it to meet the demands of an increasingly innovation-based global economy. Ending the exchange session, Ambassador Knapper emphasized that the U.S. will continue to stand by HUSTers not just as a partner, but as a steadfast companion on their journey forward. “Let’s work together to make the next 30 years even more extraordinary than the last,” he said.
On April 1, Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang, President of HUST, welcomed delegates from 13 leading U.S. universities, the Institute of International Education, and the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam. The visit was part of the International Academic Partnership Program by the U.S. Mission to Vietnam, exploring new academic collaboration opportunities in celebration of the 30th anniversary of U.S. - Vietnam relations.
“As we celebrate 30 years of diplomatic relations, this U.S. higher education delegation in Vietnam is a testament to the United States fulfilling its commitments under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” said Marc E. Knapper, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam. “Expanding educational partnerships is crucial to the success of the U.S.-Vietnam relationship. By bringing together top universities from both nations, we are creating new pathways for students and researchers to thrive in both countries.”
