This morning (July 25), at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), the Hanoi Youth Union launched the 2025 “Green Summer” Campaign, with the participation of 23 city-level volunteer teams and nearly 1,000 young volunteers from the capital, all carrying the determination and youthful enthusiasm to bring positive change to new communities.
The “Green Summer” campaign is one of the most notable annual volunteer activities organized by the Hanoi Youth Union, bringing together thousands of students who embody the spirit of dedication and social responsibility.
With a mission to spread love and compassion to remote areas, the campaign continues Vietnam’s tradition of “the good leaves protect the worn-out ones.” It offers students opportunities to experience real-life challenges, test themselves, and apply academic knowledge to serve the community. It is also a journey to help young people develop life skills, teamwork, and a sense of active citizenship in modern society.

From July 25 to July 31, 888 volunteers—organized into teams—will bring the campaign’s spirit to 13 communes across six provinces and cities: Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Ninh Binh, Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa, and Ha Tinh. Key activities include:
* 14 “AI for All” classes: Teaching AI usage and Scratch programming to school students.
* 14 public service support teams: Assisting local governments in implementing two-tier administrative models and guiding citizens in accessing online public services.
* STEM, English, and soft skills classes: Inspiring learning and fostering holistic development among local youth.
The campaign underscores the pioneering role of HUST students in contributing to the nation’s sustainable development.
At the launch ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Huynh Dang Chinh – Vice President of HUST – commended the dedication, energy, and sense of social responsibility demonstrated by the 888 student volunteers. He noted that the 2025 “Green Summer” campaign takes place at a pivotal moment, as Vietnam transitions from a three-tier local government structure to a two-tier model—an important milestone in administrative reform aimed at improving efficiency and service to the people.
In this context, volunteer teams will continue to embody the spirit of “close to the people, for the people, serving the people” through practical actions in local communities throughout July. Their specific projects will not only support the government transition but also demonstrate the active role of Hanoi’s youth in national development.
This year’s campaign is supported by dedicated sponsors and partners, including the Green Future Fund – Vingroup, the Youth Union of Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group, and Hanoi Bus Station Joint Stock Company. Thanks to their support, the volunteer teams can implement impactful projects aligned with the goals of green transition and sustainable community development, such as: * * “Lighting up rural roads” project: Installing 10km of solar-powered street lights.
* Planting trees, building school restrooms, and constructing waste treatment facilities in remote areas.
* Building libraries, painting murals, and organizing activities to promote waste sorting and reducing plastic waste.
Each initiative carries a meaningful message: HUST students not only bring assistance but also walk alongside local communities in building a green, digital, humanistic, and sustainable future.
The “Green Summer” campaign offers young people opportunities to learn, share, and spread the desire to contribute, joining hands to create a greener, cleaner, and more livable Vietnam. With enthusiasm, creativity, and commitment, these volunteers are sure to leave lasting impressions, fostering trust and spreading positive values within society.
Nguyen Kim Quy, Vice President of the HUST Student Association, makes a commitment on behalf of the volunteer teams at the ceremony.
