With the goal of enhancing AI proficiency for teachers, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), along with the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam, the Scratch Foundation, the Vietnam Foundation for Innovation in Education (VIEF), and UNICEF Vietnam, participated in the launch of the "AI for SuperTeacher 2025" online course. Within five days of its launch, registrations surged from 30,000 to 50,000 teachers nationwide.

The rapid advancement of AI has created an urgent need for education systems worldwide to adapt, preparing students who are accustomed to integrating AI into all aspects of their work. To achieve this, teaching staff must first be equipped with fundamental knowledge and effective skills for using AI in their teaching and interactions with students.

This is a formidable challenge not only for Vietnam but also for the education systems of the world's most developed nations. The challenge lies not only in developing the content and curriculum for AI training for teachers but also in how to popularize and disseminate the course to a vast number of educators across the country.

Recognizing its responsibility as Vietnam's leading higher education institution in science and technology, Hanoi University of Science and Technology has partnered with the Ministry of Education and Training and other stakeholders to widely implement the "AI for SuperTeacher 2025" training course.

An AI training course with practical, highly applicable skills

The foundational AI application training program for teachers was developed by STEAM for Vietnam, supported by the Scratch Foundation and the Vietnam Foundation for Innovation in Education (VIEF), and endorsed by UNICEF Vietnam and the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam.

The program is designed to keep pace with the rapid evolution of today's AI technology, featuring in-depth content and practical skills that can be immediately applied in the classroom. At the same time, the training focuses on sustainable fundamentals: critical thinking, methodology, and problem-solving abilities—core skills that empower teachers to remain steadfast in their profession amidst major technological shifts and changing student characteristics.

The "AI for SuperTeacher" course is designed for teachers at all levels, from preschool to high school, college, and university. Its objective is to equip educators with foundational knowledge and skills to apply Generative AI in teaching, while also building a community of innovative teachers ready to adapt to future educational trends.

After each online session, teachers continue to engage on the "Bụi phấn AI - STEAM for Vietnam" (AI Chalkdust) online forum, where they share products, critique ideas, and support one another in applying AI to their daily teaching. A notable aspect of the training methodology is the integration of theory with practice. Guided by the principles of "learning by doing" and "if you want to go far, go together," teachers work in groups to progressively turn ideas into reality, developing them into AI application projects that can be used in their classrooms in the upcoming school year.

HUST as the driving force for "AI for SuperTeacher"

In terms of content, target audience, and training methods, "AI for SuperTeacher" was highly rated. However, the key to the course's success was its ability to attract a large number of participants from the education sector. This was the primary challenge.

The solution to this challenge required a partner with technological capability, a reputation for excellence in training and research, and broad social influence to endorse the course's potential.

As Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated at the launch of the “Digital Literacy Campaign,” “when it comes to challenging tasks, we turn to HUST.” The participation of Hanoi University of Science and Technology was a critical factor in the success of this course and similar projects. With the consensus of the Ministry of Education and Training, HUST became a co-organizing partner of the training course.

In the spirit of promoting educational innovation, Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang, President of HUST, shared: “How can we bring AI applications to every lecturer, every student? Courses like this will be beneficial right from the high school level and are a prerequisite for improving student quality in the future.”

Thus, HUST's role as a pillar for the "AI for SuperTeacher" program affirms its educational philosophy: "Responsibility to the Nation, Commitment to the Community; Regional Connection, Global Integration."

Breakthrough results with HUST's support

Shortly after registration opened, "AI for SuperTeacher 2025" attracted nearly 30,000 teachers, a figure almost four times higher than the 8,500 teachers who participated in AI training projects implemented by STEAM for Vietnam in 2024.

The support from Hanoi University of Science and Technology had a positive and tangible impact, reflected in breakthrough growth figures and creating strong momentum to empower teachers across the country to master new technology.

At the opening ceremony on the morning of July 6, 2025, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son emphasized: "With three to four times the number of participating teachers compared to last year, let's leverage this widespread engagement to fully exploit the potential of technology in teaching and learning."

Sharing the perspective of international partners, Ms. Alexandra Greig-Duarte, Cultural Attaché of the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi, remarked: "Equipping oneself with AI literacy is no longer an option but a crucial key for both teachers and students to become creators and contribute to technological development!"

Just five days after the launch with HUST's involvement, the number of teachers participating in the course continued to climb, reaching the 50,000 mark, and it may not stop there. An incredibly impressive result!

The culmination of the course is not an exam but the STEAMese AI Summit, which will be held for the first time in October 2025. Here, outstanding teachers will have the opportunity to present their projects, share the results of their classroom applications, and inspire the nationwide community of innovative educators.

This is yet another initiative that demonstrates a pioneering spirit in the digital transformation of the education sector, backed by a strong commitment from all stakeholders to support teachers in the new era.

At the heart of these positive changes is the presence of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, carrying the message: "Responsibility to the Nation, Commitment to the Community; Regional Connection, Global Integration."
