On the morning of 29/08, Hanoi University of Science and Technology welcomed the delegations of the World Bank led by Dr. Alberto Rodriguez, Regional Director for Human Development, East Asia and Pacific.
Other delegates of the World Bank included Dr. Rianna Mohammed-Roberts, Leader of Human Development, Mr. Michael Drabble, Senior Education Specialist, Support for Autonomous Higher Education Project (SAHEP) Manager, and a team of staff in Vietnam.
Assoc. Prof. Tran Ngoc Khiem, Vice President of HUST, reported: “The partnership between HUST and the WB has flourished following the success of SAHEP. The project has a total investment of $50 million, with $21.5 million allocated for construction and $24.5 million invested in 30 laboratories for training and research. We appreciate your assistance in developing management, constructing C7 Hall, and establishing laboratories for research and training.”
Dr. Alberto Rodriguez, Regional Director for Human Development, WB in East Asia and Pacific, expressed his thrill to return and witness the success of SAHEP at HUST.
“HUST is a pioneer in Vietnam’s higher education. Through our collaboration with HUST, the World Bank has gained valuable insights that can be applied to other investments in Vietnam and across the region,” maintained Dr. Rodriguez.
In addition, Dr. Rodriguez inquired about the students from HUST, particularly their ability to apply acquired skills and their career prospects after graduation.
Addressing this issue, Assoc. Prof. Dinh Van Hai, Director of the Center for Communication and Digital Knowledge, HUST, emphasized the university's mission: To ensure student success by offering undergraduates the best job opportunities.
"HUST ensures quality education while strengthening ties with businesses to provide extensive internship opportunities. We organize job fairs and career workshops for upper-year students, enabling them to secure positions with major companies before graduation. Approximately 60% of HUST graduates are employed by international firms," shared Assoc. Prof. Dinh Van Hai.
According to Assoc. Prof. Tran Ngoc Khiem, HUST facilitates the admission of female students into engineering programs, ensuring that students of any gender can access education and fully realize their potential. Furthermore, each year, the university allocates approximately 70 billion VND of scholarship fund to reward students with excellent academic performance and conduct. Students from disadvantaged backgrounds have numerous opportunities to access valuable scholarships, such as the Tran Dai Nghia Scholarship, corporate scholarships, and merit-based scholarships.

At the end of the visit, the World Bank delegation toured the C7 Hall and the SAHEP project laboratories. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their future collaboration.
