From September 4 to 19, 2024, HUST Cohort 69 freshmen participated in a 10-session orientation program organized by the university's Student Affairs Office. Each student attended one in-person session at Hall C2 and participated in the remaining sessions virtually via MS Teams.
What did freshmen say about their first days at HUST?
As freshmen embarked on their academic journey at HUST, the orientation serves as a crucial bridge to help freshmen quickly connect with the university, easing their initial confusion.
Coming from another province, Nguyen Do Lan Hien, a Biomedical Engineering student from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (SOICT), emphasized how the orientation provided essential information that helped her adjust to life away from home.
“It’s my first time living away from family, so learning how to manage my finances was crucial. Luckily, I learned this skill during the final orientation sessions.” Lan Hien and other Cohort 69 students were introduced to the student handbook - a “survival guide” with all the essential information about university life, including study planning, budgeting, finding accommodation, and locating part-time jobs. She also expressed her gratitude to the HUST faculty and members of the iCTSV Club, who supported freshmen throughout every step of the orientation.
Nguyen Thanh Huyen, a freshman in Educational Management, Faculty of Education Science and Technology, shared that the orientation changed her perspective on studying.
“During the orientation, the instructor prompted me to reflect and realize that fear of failure creates mental blocks and limits effort. I have completely changed my mindset and no longer fear difficult subjects or failure.”
Nguyen Cong Thanh from the Computer Science program at SOICT said he became more self-aware about his academic attitude, noticing how his classmates all showed great determination. He felt proud to learn from professors and top experts, setting his goal of becoming as skilled as his mentors in the future.
Another aspect that touched Thành’s heart was a video on HUST’s history during the war, encouraging him to excel academically and uphold the core values of HUST: Responsibility, Creativity, Integrity, and Excellence.
The stories shared by Lan Hien, Thanh Huyen, and Cong Thanh illustrated the success of Cohort 69’s orientation week, which helped freshmen smoothly integrate into their new environment. By offering creative topics and fostering a friendly, interactive atmosphere, HUST turned the event into a truly engaging and bonding experience.
