On November 15, at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), 35 new graduates from the joint training programs with Troy University in Computer Science and Business Administration received their diplomas.
Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Phong Dien, Vice President of HUST, expressed pride in the graduates’ accomplishments after four rigorous years. He highlighted that HUST-TROY graduates, now part of the HUST alumni network, are equipped with sharp global mindsets, and advanced skills and knowledge, reflecting the university's prestige. “No matter where life takes you, HUST will always stand as an anchor, guiding and supporting you on every path you choose,” the Vice President affirmed.
Representing the new graduates, Do Gia Phuc, Bachelor of Computer Science, reflected on his early assumptions about university life, believing it was merely about preparing for exams. However, he realized that studying in the HUST-TROY program was far more demanding, requiring students to tackle numerous challenging projects to meet academic goals. Gia Phuc also emphasized that the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic added unprecedented difficulties and pressure to their academic journey.
Prof. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor of Troy University, personally attended the ceremony in Vietnam to award degrees to the new graduates. In his address, he presented three challenges to the Class of 2024:
Stay connected with the university as alumni
Contribute positively to society regardless of scale of contribution
Become lifelong learners by continually honing their skills and returning to academia when needed.
Since 2004, HUST and Troy University have offered two joint English-language programs in Business Administration and Computer Science. Each cohort admits about 40 to 60 students, with a 10-semester curriculum lasting 3.5 years. Currently, Troy University has over 1,100 Vietnamese students, both in Vietnam and on its Alabama campus.
