HUST professor won the Hitachi Global Foundation Asia Innovation Award 2020 Best Innovation Award

It is a big pride of Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) as Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Minh Tan, Director of the Institute for R&D of Natural Products (INAPRO-HUST) has excellently won the highest prize – The Best Innovation Award in the first call of The 2020 Hitachi Global Foundation Asia Innovation Award with the project named “JEVA - The smart and mobile technological solution to concentrate heat sensitive solutions (fruit juices, herbal extracts,...) for creating added values of agricultural and fishery products”.

The Hitachi Global Foundation Asia Innovation Award is an award program launched every year, since 2020, to promote science, technology, and innovation that contributes to solving social issues and realizing a sustainable society in the ASEAN region.

This award recognizes individuals and groups that undeniably served public interests through their outstanding achievements in research and development (R&D) in the fields of science and technology, including their visions of an ideal future society and social implementation plans for R&D as a means of achieving SDGs.

In this first year, 18 universities and research institutes in six ASEAN countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar were invited to submit R&D results that contribute to the following targets of SDGs Goal 2 " End Hunger " and Goal 3 " Good Health and Well-being".

JEVA concept contributed to the SDGs 2. Zero hunger by addressing simultaneously target 2.2 Nutrition Need, target 2.3 Agricultural productivity and target 2.4 Sustainable food production systems. Moreover, target 3.9 Air, water and soil pollution of SDG 3 Good health and Well-being was also fulfilled. Last but not least, target 7.3 By 2030, double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency of the SDG 7. Affordable and clean Energy was fulfilled. JEVA technology was developed based on respect for natural values and diversity. It enables farmers to gain stable income while working in an eco-friendly way on their lands and SMEs to achieve high-economic-viability and sustainable production with small/medium-scaled and decentralized processing.

About Asia Innovation Award 2021 call

In the second call of The Hitachi Global Foundation Asia Innovation Award this year, up to 3 applications could be sent from each eligible university

For the year 2021, Goal 14 “Life below water” and Goal 15 “Life on land” are selected from 17 goals and 169 targets of the SDGs.

In high hopes that HUST would welcome excellent candidates this year, an internal committee at the university would review and screen application documents beforehand if there are more applications in 2021.
