Establishing Cooperative Relationships between HUST and Western Sydney University

Professor Barney Glover, Vice-Chancellor and President of WSU judged: “Both HUST and WSU have not only the long traditional history but also the dynamism of an innovative university.”

On July 21, Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Western Sydney University initially prepare the ground for a long-term partnership by holding the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding on Training, Research, and Academic Exchange.

“Western Sydney University would like to build intense cooperation with a university in Hanoi, and there is no better choice than Hanoi University of Science and Technology – the leading university in Vietnam in science and technology.” Professor Barney Glover shared at the event.

Professor Barney Glover has great expectations of implementing the exchange of students, PhD students and academic staff, followed by developing training programs, collaborative research projects, and expanding international cooperation.

HUST is oriented to become an innovation research university pioneering in the Vietnam higher education system and reaching a high regional and worldwide position. Currently, HUST currently identifies four key research areas of science and technology including Data Technology and Intelligent Systems; Sustainable Energy & Environment; Advanced Materials; Health Sciences and Technology.

“HUST also judges cooperation with international academic partners as one of the most essential factors to improve the quality of education, research and creating a generation of global students,” Associate Professor Huynh Quyet Thang, President of HUST, affirmed that the University always focuses on perfecting the internationalization ecosystem in training and research fields, promoting innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship.

With those goals, HUST has established strong cooperative relationships with over 280 universities, research institutes, international organizations, and world-leading corporations.

In 2021, the University ranked in the top 281-290 on QS University Rankings for Asia. In 2022, five key training fields of HUST entered the top 300-450 of the QS World University Rankings, including Computer Science and Information Systems; Electrical and Electronic; Mechanical, Aeronautical, and Manufacturing; Mathematics; and Materials Science.

According to Professor Barney Glover, Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Western Sydney University share many features in common, including reputation, high university rankings, and interests in research and technology transfer.

Ranked in the Top 250 global universities in Times Higher Education World University Rankings, WSU is among the top 2% of universities in the world. Besides, according to QS World University Rankings, the University has also rated 5 stars for these categories including Teaching, Employability, Internationalisation, Facilities, Innovation, and Inclusiveness.

In 2022, WSU ranked 1st in the world for its social, ecological and economic impact in Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings. The University ranked 1st overall worldwide and 1st in Australia in the prestigious annual rankings, which assess universities on driving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

In 2015, WSU implemented Western Sydney University’s Launch Pad - a Tech Startup Incubator to improve the entrepreneurship community on campus and promote the regional innovative entrepreneurship ecosystem. At HUST, the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem is gradually improving. HUST is unique in the Vietnam higher education system with a fully-constituted ecosystem from ideas with in-depth research to incubation, acceleration, and finally, activities supporting commercialization through BK Fund.

Vice-Chancellor and President of WSU, Professor Barney Glover highly appreciated BK Holdings and BK Fund for promoting entrepreneurship and product commercialization from the University, and believes in the possibility of sharing experiences and expanding the network in the world entrepreneurship community between HUST and WSU.

Associate Professor Huynh Quyet Thang, President of HUST, believes in the strong connection between HUST and WSU will lay a solid foundation for achievements shortly. On the side of WSU, Professor Barney Glover, Vice-Chancellor and President of WSU, emphasized that the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding marks the beginning of the collaboration between the two universities, being the steppingstone for influential projects in the coming time.
