On Jan 10th, 2020, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) coordinated with Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) to hold “Gigaku Techno Park Alliance Meeting for Academia-Industry linkage promotion” workshop, which aims to promote cooperation between universities and companies from the two countries, especially on human resource training and research – technology transfer to meet the demand of business corporates.

At the beginning of the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Hoang Minh Son warmly delivered the welcoming speech, expressing his gratitude for the strong bond between the two universities, “I fully believe that the workshop would be an excellent forum for all to share experiences on the promotion of Academia-Industry linkage in order to successfully provide human resources for Japanese and Vietnamese companies in the years to come.”.
Accordingly, HUST got the first Memorandum of academic and educational collaboration with NUT that was signed by President Hoang Van Phong and President Masaru Hatori in early 2000 and was extended by succeeding Presidents of the two universities in 2005, 2009 and 2012.
In 2001, 2003, 2006 and 2014, conferences organized at HUST and NUT have been the forums for officials and researchers from both universities to share and exchange information on many fields of mutual concern.
On behalf of Nagaoka University of Technology, Prof. Kiyoshi Ohishi, Vice President of NUT said: “It’s a pleasure for us to promote academia-industry cooperation at the workshop here at HUST. In 2014, HUST has been selected as the top global university in Japan. Since then, we have been making an effort to implement projects together through Gigaku Techno Park (GTP). I want to express my sincere gratitude for the staff and researchers who have joined this project, especially our contributors from HUST.”
GTP Alliance Meeting for Academia-Industry linkage promotion workshop
The workshop focused on two topics: “Academia-Industry Linkage network for R&D collaboration” and “Develop R&D collaboration for enterprise” with 7 presentations from companies, government and both universities.
In the discussion among professors, experts with companies regarding the R&D area, questions were posed to address current problems in the field, along with further cooperation between different sectors on the feasible solutions. To promote technology transfer and innovation development, it is necessary universities play a key role in the R&D area with the support from policymakers and the strong connection with the business sector.
Assoc. Prof. Pham Hoang Luong and Prof. Kobayashi Takaomi were appointed as Co-Directors of VJIIST
On the same day, Assoc. Prof. Pham Hoang Luong, was reappointed as the Director of Vietnam-Japan International Institute for Science and Technology (VJIIST), and Prof. Kobayashi Takaomi, Director of Gigaku Techno Park, NUT was appointed as the Co-Director of VJIIST.
