Among other ranked Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Hanoi University of Science and Technology’s ‘SDG 7 - Affordable and clean energy’ is ranked at 33rd position by the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings. This acknowledges HUST’s effort in making positive social impacts and ensuring the sustainability of HUST as well as of the community.
With the 17 SDGs taken effects in 2016, the UN’s call to action for all countries hopes to build peaceful, just and sustainable societies. First launched in 2019, the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings by SDG are among the first to evaluate universities’ work toward these goals, which is claimed to build “a new hierarchy of universities”, a new perspective on the impacts of institutions on society in addition to teaching and research.
This edition, which was released on April 22, 2020, comprises 766 universities, spanning from 85 countries over the world (expanded from 450 universities of 76 countries last year).
Indicators are used to provide comprehensive and balanced comparisons across four areas: research (searching for new solutions and knowledge), stewardship (being responsible for consumption and sustainability), and outreach (working directly with their communities and society).
Hanoi University of Science and Technology is one of the two universities participating in these ranking tables.
Realizing the university’s importance towards the surrounded communities, HUST considers the commitment to sustainability and contribution to our society to be of utmost importance in its mission. Even though this is the first time joining the ranking, HUST’s impacts in Affordable and clean energy are highly regarded, ranking at 33rd out of 361 participants, while influences are recognized in other fields as below:
This also aligns with HUST’s sustainable development strategies, with energy and sustainable environment being the key priority among the university’s science and technology fields. The outstanding result highlights HUST’s roles and responsibilities towards its teaching, research and operations as well as the society’s activities. High-quality work by researchers and lecturers at HUST is once again confirmed, with the demonstration of our positive impact on the global community. Especially in this difficult time, when the joining hands and contribution of every individual are priceless, this news becomes more meaningful, and HUST are more certain our people are marching on the right path.
