Juice EVAporation Technology (JEVA) - an effective solution for Vietnam's agricultural market

Vietnam is well-known for a well-off agricultural market. However, it is facing many difficulties due to Covid-19, especially when watermelon, dragon fruit, fresh fruits that cannot be preserved in the long-term, the use of Juice EVAporation Technology (JEVA) is an effective solution.

The out-breaking Covid-19 epidemic leads to heavy damage to Vietnam's agricultural market. Many containers of short-term preserved fruits such as watermelons and dragon fruits cannot be exported, hence the price for domestic consumption is going down.

To “rescue” fruits for farmers, a group of scientists from the Institute for Research and Development of Natural Compounds Applications at the Hanoi University of Science and Technology develops fruit juice concentrating technology integrates JEVA membrane processes.

Fruit juice concentrate technology integrates JEVA membrane processes (heat-sensitive liquid concentrate technology at low temperature and normal pressure) can process a variety of juices, increasing the flexibility of the processing system, thus ensuring efficient operation and increasing investment efficiency. Furthermore, Juice EVAporation Technology allows fruit juice to be processed at normal temperatures, resulting in a high-quality product that preserves the natural flavor of the juice while still gaining very high dry matter (above 70 ° Brix).

Another outstanding feature of this technology is that it integrates different membrane processes into different concentration stages to maximize the advantages of the film. At the same time, the process can possibly produce fruit juices with the high dry matter under medium pressure. Therefore, equipment investment costs and energy costs are reduced.

The most remarkable thing is that JEVA technology uses no chemicals and has a lower energy demand than thermal concentration. In addition, when operating, the system of equipment only releases a small amount of water mixed with fruit sugar in the juice. This amount of wastewater can be diluted to be treated together with domestic wastewater at the production facility or directed to the processing facility septic tank. Consequently, the operation of the equipment system does not cause adverse impacts on the environment.
