Nuclear Education and Training: HUST in close cooperation with VINATOM and JINED for the Training Course on Nuclear Power Plant Technology of Japan

On Thursday morning (14th October), the closing ceremony of the 3rd Nuclear Power Plant Technology training course - jointly organized by Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), Vietnam Institute of Atomic Energy (VINATOM), and Japan International Nuclear Energy Development Company (JINED) - was held online via Microsoft Teams platform.

The training course for Vietnamese students and young researchers on Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) Technology is an annual course sponsored and organized by the Japanese side. This is the third time that JINED has participated in organizing and sponsoring. Due to the complicated and unpredictable developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s course was the most special one since the starting in 2006 with all the processes including preparation, teaching, and examination were carried out online. The course was held from the 9th September to 14th October, earlier than usual, in order to celebrate the 65th Anniversary of HUST. Attending the closing ceremony, on the Japanese side, there were Mr. Tetsuhiro Nobuta - Counselor of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam, Mr. Tomoaki Shirakawa - CEO of JINED company, Mr. Akio Toba - Director of JICC company, and other Japanese officers and lecturers from Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Hitachi and JINED as well. On the Vietnamese side, there were Assoc. Prof. Huynh Dang Chinh - Vice President of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Prof. Nguyen Huu Lam - Director of the Institute of Engineering Physics (SEP), Dr. Tran Chi Thanh - Director of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute, together with many other lecturers and scientists from HUST, SEP, VINATOM and the students who participated in the course.

Giving speech at the closing ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Huynh Dang Chinh expressed his sincere gratitude to the Japanese partners for continuously sponsoring on finance, learning materials, and sending excellence experts for exchange at HUST for many years. He also emphasized that the significance of knowledge that students have gained during the course would surely enrich their skills for future work. Without the enthusiastic support from Japanese partners, the courses would not have been so successful for many years. The close partnership between Vietnam and Japan in the field of nuclear power has clearly proven the vision and consistency in the cooperation for the development of nuclear power in combating climate change and reducing of the emissions of greenhouse gaseous in Vietnam. Vice President Huynh Dang Chinh also proposed that the Japanese partners, directly to JINED and JICC companies, would continue to sponsor for the courses in the coming years. Besides, he sincerely thanked the VINATOM for working closely to organize and manage of this course as well. In the occasion of the closing ceremony, the Vice President, on behalf of the Board of Presidency of HUST, has cordially invited the distinguished guests and students to attend the meeting to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

At the end of the ceremony, 19 students who successfully completed the course were awarded a symbolic certificate, the official certificate will be given to them as soon as the social distancing order is lifted. This is also a special feature of this year's course, a memorable memory for all students, lecturers, as well as officials involved in the organization and management of the course. The great success of the course is an affirmation for the University's flexibility in teaching and research policies, adapting to the pandemic conditions.
