Thanks to close cooperation between HUST researchers and VMED Group (https://vmedgroup.com/), the ventilators were promptly supplied to medical facilities across the country.
On 19 November, the Closing Ceremony of Phase 1 of the joint research project on Manufacturing of high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) was held at Hanoi University of Science and Technology. The event aimed to publish the results of the first phase and to present further deployment plans.
Accordingly, nearly 800 BKVM-HF1 ventilators have been manufactured and deployed for the use of COVID-19 treatment on many locations, from field hospitals and field warehouses to provincial departments of health and also the Laos Ministry of Health.
Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang, President of HUST, stated at the ceremony on 19 November.
Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang, President of HUST, highly appreciated the cooperation between HUST researchers and VMED Group for the practicality of the project.
The project also received positive responses from the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Health owing to the practical application of the product, especially in solving the painful problem of the shortage of medical equipment in the COVID-19 pandemic. The product is no longer an idea but has been put into practice and being brought to the battlefield against COVID-19 across the country.
According to Doctor Nguyen Trung Cap, Deputy Director of National Hospital for Tropical Diseases, the product line of the BKVM-HF1 ventilator can be widely applied by reason of its low cost and ease of installation. In particular, BKVM-HF1 ventilators are manufactured domestically, hence easily meeting the demand for quantity and quality of the market.

Compared with foreign ventilators, BKVM-HF1 ventilator is outstanding in terms of after-sales service. After the products are delivered, further steps of products’ installation including operation and maintenance will continue to be monitored and supported by the research and manufacturing team.
The product is expected to be used and exploited even after the end of COVID-19 pandemic.
Based upon the success of the product line, Assoc. Prof. Vu Duy Hai proposed to the Ministry of Science and Technology to keep up finalizing and updating new technologies, including the functions of controlling and tracking, features of remote control and projection screen.
HFNC was researched and manufactured from high demand in COVID-19 treatment in medical facilities, and from desire of strengthening medical equipment from Ministries, Sectors and Government.
The research project on BKVM-HF1 ventilators supervised by Assoc. Prof. Vu Duy Hai - Director of the Center for Biomedical Electronics is a key institutional-level research project of HUST in 2020. Based on previous studies, in July 2021, HUST and VMED Group held the ceremony to publish and introduce the high-flow oxygen ventilators BKVM-HF1 for the treatment of COVID-19 pandemic and to sign the strategic cooperation agreement in the field of health science and technology.
In addition, HUST also has many applied research serving for the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic such as rapid test kit, negative pressure stretcher, positive pressure enclosure, fresh air breathing mask, mobile COVID-19 disinfection chambers, high-quality antibacterial facemask…
